Identifying issues with turbine blades is only the first step. In 2019, SkySpecs launched Horizon to be a platform for SkySpecs to offer a multi-layered solution for customers that includes: data collection, wind turbine blade engineering expertise, and a place for all stakeholders to collaborate to manage and analyze massive amounts of data, spot trends, and create plans for high-cost repair campaigns. Ultimately, this will help reduce the cost and risk of operations for the industry.

SkySpecs is seeking a UAS Engineering Technician to join our rapidly growing European team based in Amsterdam, Netherlands to help us scale our business throughput Europe.

You will combine superb drone electrical and mechanical troubleshooting knowledge with a passion for innovative ideas and solving hard problems. You will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, tracking, and in-field 24/7 tech support activities associated with UAS electro-mechanical systems and subsystems. You will work closely with software and hardware engineers, system integrators, and field operators to ensure maximum system uptime and effective technical support for all facets of the technical operations process.


  • Support field operations teams with 24/7 on-call technical support and logistics.
  • Help the team with all facets of the UAS system maintenance, repair, and overhaul process.
  • Troubleshoot complex, long-term vehicle, hardware, and microelectronics issues as well as coordinating with our pilots to make in-field “quick-fix” repairs and remote diagnoses.
  • Contribute to the field repair and troubleshooting guide with guidance from engineering team.
  • Operate and maintain shop equipment, tools, and warehouse area.
  • Support day-to-day logistics needs by dropping off equipment to shipping locations as needed.


  • European Union citizenship or residency.
  • Native English speaker or demonstrated proficiency at or above CEFR Level C1 or TOEFL >100.
  • Ability to relocate to and work from our Amsterdam, Netherlands office on a full-time basis.
  • University degree in an engineering, unmanned systems, or related field.
  • Practical knowledge and hands-on experience with UAS operations, system integration and test, vehicle and sensor assembly / disassembly, telemetry radios, R/C transmitters, video downlinks, or UAS field troubleshooting – i.e. you can independently assess, diagnose, and troubleshoot a variety of drone technical issues with minimal guidance.
  • Superb drone “hacker / tinkerer / maker” skills; drones are your passion.
  • Willingness to jump in at any level and do “whatever it takes” to help the team.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and project planning skills; high attention to detail.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic.
  • A valid driver’s license.


  • Startup or tech experience.
  • More than 5 years of experience in a hands-on technical role building and troubleshooting complex electronic and/or electro-mechanical drone products.
  • Deep “hands on” knowledge – beyond simple trial-and-error troubleshooting – related to advanced drone technologies, including LiDAR, GNSS, IMU, microelectronics, embedded systems, multi-axis gimbals, imaging sensors, electromagnetic interference, and Linux-based OS.
  • Experience with resin-based 3D printers, shop equipment (e.g. hand tools, drill press, table saws), and electronics lab test equipment (e.g. soldering, function generators, multimeters).
  • Offshore drone operations experience – bonus points for having GWO 1-5 certification.
  • Working-level proficiency in another language besides English.
